Unquote” Sinclair

“The great corporations which employed you lied to you, and lied to the whole country — from top to bottom it was nothing but one gigantic lie.”

Upton SinclairA quote from Upton Sinclair’s book “The Jungle.” Sinclair’s muckraking showed the trials of immigrants and how big business ceaselessly took advantage of them.

The book is famous for the action President Roosevelt took to correct the corruption in the food industry, and after 100 pages, I see why it had such grand impact.

  1. I think that was the last time there was a major tightening of regulation in the US food industry. Its about time we look into that again, especially when the governmental department that gives subsidies to farmers corn, soy, and dairy farmers is the same department that tells use what we should eat and what is nutritious for use. The good old USDA, the same one that subsidies dairy and then tells use to drink and buy milk (food pyramid, and the old four food groups, remember that one?) Methinks i see a conflict of interest. Go vegetarian, you will feel better than you ever have.
